State College(Titan Fitness) MMA Fighter’s Compete in Newark, Deleware
Posted on Friday, September 11, 2009 in Amateur Fight News, Personal Martial Arts Training, Titan Fitness

On June 28, 2008, Titan Fitness MMA fighters, Mike Putnam and Tyler Higgins, competed at Jack’s Gym in Newark, DE.

Mike Putnam not only ‘Ground and Pound’ his opponent en route to a TKO victory, he was also awarded “Fighter of the Night” by the event Promoter.  Mike raised his MMA record to 2-0 against another quality fighter.  Mike’s opponent this time around was another unbeaten MMA competitor, as well as, an accomplished amateur kickboxer with over 30 victory’s on his career record.

Mike dominated his opponent with multiple takedowns and an impressive ground position control and striking, which led to his broken down opponent’s tap out in the second round.

Tyler Higgins battled against a veteran MMA opponent in what became the most exciting fight of the night.  Tyler nearly choked out his opponent just one minute into the first round, and then nearly finished a leg submission attempt in the last 30 seconds of the third round.  A credit is to be given to the grappling skills of his opponent just to get out of the submission attempts! Between these two points, the two fighters traded strikes in an exciting back and forth slugfest.  Tyler got caught in a few takedowns which seem to determine the narrow victory for the skilled opponent who remained unbeaten.

Central PA’s Leader for Women’s Kickboxing and Self Defense
Posted on Saturday, August 15, 2009 in Titan Fitness, Women's Self Defense

    all-fight1wkbwkb-testwkb-allsion

For the last twelve years, Titan Fitness(formerly State College Martial Arts Academy), has built a positive tradition in State College and Central PA for its Women’s Kickboxing program.  Since the fall of 1997, hundreds of women have entered the Titan facility to participate in thispopular program that is influenced by the sport and martial art of Muay Thai Kickboxing.  Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and is widely considered the most devastating kickboxing and striking martial art in the world.  Thai Boxing is known as the eight-point fighting system, which means, a practitioner learns how to utilize both their hands, shins, knees, and elbows for striking offense.

The class was developed to give women oppurtunity to learn a form of real kickboxing that would be effective for self-defense as well.  The class is for all ages and fitness levels.  The classroom is set for a non-threatening, fun, helpful, and positive learning environment.  The workouts are a great alternative to any workout and are pushed to a level of intensity to benefit all.

Students participate in the program to develop self-defense tactics, cardiovascular and muscular endurance, and increased self-confidence.  But, women Thai Boxers have the opportunity to take it to the highest level by competing in the ring or training for a national certification.

Visit www.titanfitness.com for class schedule and to sign up for your free lesson.  Information about private lessons or small group lessons are also available on the current home page or on Titan’s site.

“I make going to Titan Fitness part of my weekly routine because the
workouts are awesome and the atmosphere keeps me energized and wanting to
    come back for more.”
Emma Vautour - (State High Student)

“Kickboxing has not only helped me physically, but has also boosted my self
    confidence
. It is tough, and when I feel like quitting I look back at what
I have accomplished up to this point and wonder how much more I can condition
my body by sticking with it.”
    Sobrina Wolff - (PSU Student)

“I never was a physically active person but now I find myself making sure I
fit kickboxing in my schedule between work and school. It is like having a
personal trainer. Bruce is there to motivate and push me to learn the
techniques. I leave with a sense of accomplishment.”
    Sobrina Wolff - (PSU Student)

“I was looking for a different type of workout. Physically, kickboxing is
intense and keeps me in great shape. But I am not just working out. I am also
learning to defend myself, and making great friends.”
    Nicole Weatherholtz - (Professional)

“I began attending Titan Fitness almost three years ago.  I began as a
student with no prior martial arts knowledge whatsoever.  I weighed about
145 lbs and was initially just looking for a way to get back into shape
after having a baby.  I now weigh in at about 125 lbs and am in the best
    shape I have ever been.”
    Allison Glenny - (Professional)

“I am on the brink of my first amateur fight, and I am amazed by the progress
I have made through the efforts of my teachers and my training partners. Not
only are these the people that I work out with, but they have become some of
    my closest friends.”
    Allison Glenny - (Professional)

“I love kickboxing because it always pushes me to my limits, and I always
    leave class feeling accomplished.”
Nicole Cardell - (State High Student)
